# Artix Migration (June 2026)
**Why:** The original Antergos used Arch Linux (systemd) with the custom Cnchi installer, both of which became unmaintained after the project ended in 2019. Artix Linux provides the same Arch-like Pacman ecosystem without systemd, using OpenRC as the default init — aligning with the original community's strong preference for init freedom. Calamares replaces Cnchi as a mature, upstream-supported installer framework. KDE Plasma replaces GNOME as the default desktop (GNOME dropped non-systemd support). The build system moved from archiso to artools (`buildiso`).
Migrated from EndeavourOS-ISO (archiso) to Artix Linux (artools/buildiso).
